The Volunteer Online Tutor role in English, Math, French, Science & Arts involves:

• Homework assistance
• Teaching/clarifying concepts in English, Math, French, Science & Arts (one or more, even all, depending on the volunteer's academic background, capacity, and schedule) at the appropriate grade levels
• Developing in students good study habits in school and at home
• By example, encouraging positive learning and a responsible attitude towards school
• Providing a balanced perspective between school and recreational activities

• Strong knowledge/skills in English & Math as taught in the Ontario curriculum (Grades 1 to 10) will be considered a definite ASSET
• Commitment/experience working with children/youth (ages 6 - 16) also an ASSET
• Excellent oral/written English (fluency in other languages welcome)
• Friendly, engaging (with listening skills, empathy, and patience appropriate for tutoring children)
• In order to promote continuity in the tutoring program, we PREFER a VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT for the duration of the 'school year' (AT LEAST 6 MONTHS)
• Appreciation for diversity and inclusiveness in your community
• Ability to report regularly about a student's progress in the program
• Ability to be a role model in promoting a healthy, productive learning environment
• Creative, with problem-solving ability and perseverance in working towards positive results
• Willingness to be part of a team, and to establish a rapport with participants
• Ability to use the 'Google Meets' platform to engage students virtually (with access to a reliable laptop, PC, and reliable access to the Internet)

PLEASE NOTE: Because tutoring is necessarily closely involved with minors (children), a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required for Volunteers over the age of 18 years old.
