Goal

Caledon Meals on Wheels (CMOW) believes in and continues to build and sustain a community where individuals can enjoy healthy, independent and connected living at any age. Priincipally, we deliver meals (fresh/frozen/groceries) to residents 65 and older (living in Caledon, Bolton, Orangeville) who cannot independently provide for themselves due to disability or infirmity. CMOW also provides support through other programs intended to promote health and wellness. Our motto: 'Live Your Life!'Let's Exercise - Volunteer lead, simple, progressive, in-home exercise allows our clients to connect socially on a weekly basis while giving them an opportunity to enhance and maintain their functional fitness, mobility and independence. This 11 month pilot is intended to improve clients' fitness through a simple 10 step exercise program facilitated by one of our trained volunteers. This program also allows isolated clients an opportunity for a social visit at the same time.

When they join the program, volunteers will receive TRAINING on a simple 10 step exercise program to be shared with clients in their homes on a weekly basis (see TIME COMMITMENT, below)

Clients can click the yellow box 'Apply Now!' and gain immediate access to the CMOW volunteer application formAfter you apply, as a precaution, please monitor your 'Junk/Spam' email folders and leave space on your voicemail for communications from CMOW.

Qualifications

  • MINIMUM AGE - 50
  • You're able to volunteer for a MINIMUM of 11 MONTHS (see TIME COMMITMENT, below)
  • Reasonable personal physical fitness
  • You have a positive, friendly, engaging attitude, recognize the importance of staying active, and you enjoy interacting with seniors
  • Access to a motor vehicle (transportation) so that you can visit CMOW clients in the Caledon area
  • Able to complete program TRAINING successfully
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check required
  • Committed to follow CMOW policies and procedures

SCREENING of applicants will be virtual (Tel/Email/Online interviewing), unless otherwise advised

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Morning, Monday Afternoon, Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Wednesday Morning, Wednesday Afternoon, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon, Friday Morning, Friday Afternoon

WEEKLY: Hours are available Monday through Friday, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM 
FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING: Example work schedule - every Tuesday at 10:00 AM for one hour. (TBA with volunteer)


Training

Volunteers will receive a general ORIENTATION to CMOW and its policies/procedres.

TRAINING: Volunteers receive a 4 hour  session specific to the exercise program they will share with clients.
