Goal

Community Living Mississauga (CLM) is a non-profit, charitable organization which provides support to people who have an intellectual disability. Our mission is to provide support to people who have an intellectual disability to ensure their quality of life in the community is meaningfully improved. Our vision is that all people will live in a state of dignity and respect, and share in all elements of living in a community which is welcoming, accepting and inclusive of everyone. All people will have the freedom to make choices and decisions that enable them to achieve self-determination.For July and August, CLM invites youth volunteers to support youth who have an intellectual disability to make the most of all that summertime has to offer. Our successful youth volunteers will encourage, support, and befriend the participating teens who are clients of CLM.Whether you're able to volunteer for 1 week or for the entirety of the 8 week program, we know that you'll enjoy joining in activities with CLM's participating teens that may include: sports, art,  movies, swimming, bowling, movies, etc., with secondary school students able to earn significant hours towards their 'community service' graduation requirement.


Description

Working under the supervision of Community Living Mississauga staff, volunteers can volunteer for 1 - 8 weeks. The volunteers are responsible for providing support to youth (ages 13 to 21), while they take part in a number of different recreational activities in the community. Duties include:

  1. Support youth to fully participate in various activities and community outings
  2. To volunteer as part of a team with our employees
  3. To make a commitment to volunteer for 1 - 8 weeks Monday to Friday (depending on availability)

Our program starts in July, and CLM is screening youth volunteers for a limited number of spots RIGHT NOW. 'Click' the yellow box 'Apply Now!' Qualifications

  • Minimum Age - 14 (Maximum - 25)
  • Passionate about helping those in your community with intellectual disabilities, and learning how 
  • You're also passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Solid communication skills that include effective listening and a patient, caring attitude
  • You take volunteering commitments seriously, diligent about keeping to agreed schedules (see TIME COMMITMENT, below)
  • You're available for mandatory TRAINING (see below)
  • You are able to provide THREE (3) References as part of the application/screening process
  • Proof of Vaccination is required (this is very much an 'in person' volunteering 'role')

Time Commitment
This is a Short Term (3 months or less) commitment starting 2022-06-13 AND ending 2022-07-13
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Morning, Monday Afternoon, Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Wednesday Morning, Wednesday Afternoon, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon, Friday Morning, Friday Afternoon

FLEXIBLE (weekdays in July & August): Scheduling will be determined based upon the availability of CLM's participating clients and youth volunteers.
Youth volunteers may volunteer from one week to eight weeks, and we encourage longer engagements, as these benefit our clients.


Training

TRAINING is mandatory for this volunteering opportunity. Successful candidates will receive an orientation to Community Living Mississauga and training that relates to the 'role'.
