The innaugural reading cafe in August 2017 will review the contents in the book; "Five Dysfunctions of a Team" by Partrick Lencioni.

Why was this book chosen? "I read this book a few years ago and loved the simplistic, entertaining approach to teaching an extremely effective leadership concept.  The manga edition is the complete illustrated version which makes it a very fast read.  The key messages of the book have been easy to remember because they are written in the form of a fable.  I recently reread the book through my volunteer leadership lens.  Even though the story is that of a CEO teaching her team to be highly functional, I know the same concepts can be applied to volunteer teams.  I can’t wait for the powerful discussion this book is going to provoke with the Volunteer Leaders in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon (Tammy Elliott, Reading Cafe Session Facilitator)"

Facilitator: Tammy Elliott, Member Relations & Learning Centre Consultant, Volunteer MBC

As a proven community leader, professionally trained facilitator and authentic leadership expert, Tammy has an innate ability to build a sense of community around a cause she cares deeply about.

Not only is Tammy a valued member of the Volunteer MBC Team, she also manages her own volunteer initiative as the founder of Caledon’s Leadership Forum for Women. Her bi-monthly program can require up to 20 volunteers to operate. To accomplish this task, she needs to draw from a large pool of volunteer support team members while also leading a smaller dedicated team of 10 core members that function very much like a Board of Directors.

Tammy brings to her role a 20-year career in corporate sales, where she eagerly volunteered for community give back roles such as the Junior Achievement and United Way programs. She is a proud collaborative partner of The Exchange, Caledon’s Community Hub, which she believes encourages collective impact in her community.

Tammy has a passion to build caring connected communities though volunteerism and is thrilled to be launching the Reading Café to build a sense of community with the Volunteer Leaders of Peel.
